TwitchPlaysPokemon has captured everyone’s attention (and an occasional Pokémon) by letting you play a hand in the adventure. While it’s definitely a rough proof of concept as the first of its kind, we’re excited to see the high level of engagement it has received and that others are tapping into Twitch as a platform that lets viewers interact on a whole new level.
One game in particular is “Daylight” from Zombie Studios, which hits the PS4 this April. In this latest (only?) entry to the speedrunning survival horror genre, players are unarmed and spend their time running for their life. According to the PlayStation blog, “..streaming has been a huge boon to the PS4 community, and the devs want Daylight to have an involved relationship with livestreams. The hope is to allow viewers to control the actual scares in a streamer’s experience, providing a much more interactive dynamic between player and audience.”
How they plan to implement this is still under wraps, but who doesn’t like to spook their friends? We asked Jared Gerritzen, the studio head at Zombie Studios, why he decided to embrace Twitch in this fashion and he said:
“If there’s one thing that’s been integral to Daylight since day one, it’s building a game that can support the streaming community. We’ve captured that by making a game that changes when and how you get scared every single time you play it. We want people to stream this. We IMPLORE people to stream this. And the one thing we wanted to give back to the streaming community was a way to interact with streamers, so we added this ability to Daylight to really give back. Who doesn’t want a way to make streamers jump at their beck and call?”
