Finding relevant content based on the language you speak

Two weeks ago, we gave broadcasters the option to set their Broadcast Language. Today, we are starting to use this data to provide better recommendations for international viewers. On both the Game and Channel directories, you will be able to see broadcasts that match your spoken language.

Please note that viewers will still be able to find top broadcasts across all languages, but content in the preferred language will be shown first. Broadcasters who have tagged their content as non-English will not have their broadcasts removed from the standard English (all) directory. It will show up in both.

To start seeing localized broadcasts, no action is required. The update automatically detects your browser’s preferred language. If you need to change this, do the following:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of Twitch’s front page.

  2. Click Language and select your preferred language.

To best analyze how this feature works, we are initially releasing it to 80% of users. By the end of the year, it will be available to everyone. If you’re one of the 20% of users who aren’t in the experiment group but want to see localized content, do the following:

  1. Navigate to either the Channel or Games directory.

  2. Add your 2-letter ISO code to the end of the URL. For example for Spanish: http://www.twitch.tv/directory/all__[/es]__ or http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Destiny[/es].

At times, there may be no broadcasts of a game available in your preferred language. In that case, no localized content will show.

We’re committed to making Twitch an awesome place for all gamers around the world. If you have feedback on how we can continue to improve our international experience, let us know in the Comments below.
