Twitch Partners with Intel to Improve Your Streaming ExperienceSep 11 2013 · 8 comments · News, Tech
At the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco today, Twitch announced it has adopted Intel® Quick Sync Video technology as part of its software development kit. This is significant news for broadcasters since it greatly reduces use of the CPU and helps improve overall video quality when streaming in high definition.
Using a 2nd Generation to current 4th Generation Intel Core processor and the built in hardware encoder for video, Intel Quick Sync Video technology will enable gamers to encode and stream their video gameplay live on Twitch with minimal impact to actual gameplay. It will also reduce CPU utilization by as much as 60% when compared with typical software based encoding solutions. As a result, it frees up a user’s CPU to continue gaming seamlessly. Performance will vary by generation, but Twitch’s implementation provides backwards compatible benefits to millions of pc gamers.
