Twitch Announces Record Breaking GrowthMar 13 2013 · 8 comments · News
We’re thrilled to share with you all today some brand-new statistics on the record breaking growth we here at Twitch have experienced in the month of February. In terms of audience size, content creators and audience engagement, it’s never been a more exciting time for us and we’d like to personally thank each and every one of you who have helped make this possible.
In February 2013, more than 600,000 unique Twitch broadcasters attracted more than 28 million unique viewers. While these numbers are staggering on their own, consider this: each of those 28 million unique viewers watched, on average, more than 1.5 hours of video per day.
Even our CEO, Emmett Shear, is floored by these numbers, in a statement made today via press release:
“Twitch launched in June of 2011 and our growth ever since has exceeded even my expectations, which were not small. A year and a half later, the community of broadcasters and viewers has multiplied hundreds of percent. Brands like Electronic Arts, Activision and Sony Online Entertainment have begun integrating Twitch directly into their products, charities have collectively raised more than three million dollars using Twitch as a platform, and conventions are now turning to Twitch as their exclusive streaming partner. We want to make broadcasting a standard piece of the gaming experience, and we’re starting to realize that goal.”
With even more growth expected, developer integrations to announce and major events in the pipeline, we’re more motivated than ever to continue on our promise to make Twitch the leading video platform and community for gamers.
